By incorporating a Zero Wastage Scheme as Company Policy Sleepyhead is leading the way in manufacturing excellence.
Sleepyhead has always had a socially responsible focus and a strong environmental conscience. Sleepyhead continues to keep waste to a minimum with a significant emphasis on recycling where possible.
In our quilting area, we have installed a Symatec waste management system which moves all the waste fabric from the quilters and overlockers, and feeds this back through a regrind tower. This in turn is blended with Nuvole polyester and is used as a comfort layer on all our entry point products.
In early 2006, we installed a rebond carpet underlay plant – Wonderlay. Each week Sleepyhead’s Brisbane factory generates approximately 1.2 tonnes of scrap foam. Wonderlay recycles all our waste foam and latex materials, leaving Sleepyhead with zero wastage and helping to minimise Australia’s land fill problems.
Additionally, Wonderlay uses MDI as the binder in the underlay manufacturing process which is a safer product than TDI, a hazardous, carcinogenic product used by most other rebond underlay manufacturers.
