What's important to me?
Is a firm bed better for a person with back problems?
No. It is a popular misconception that a mattress has to be firm to be good for you. Don't confuse a hard sleep surface with good support. Although some people may prefer a firmer feel, a mattress that provides correct support resulting in low pressure points is a far better option. A mattress that is too firm will not support the body evenly, thus creating pressure points, usually at the shoulders and hip which can result in disturbed sleep.

Does the feel of a bed change with time?
It may take several weeks for you to become accustomed to your new sleeping surface. In a top quality mattress, the comfort layers will mould to your body shape, enhancing your sleeping comfort. Generally, beds will soften over time. For the best results and to give a consistent feel, mattress springs must be heat tempered. While Latex comfort layers are superior and won't break down it must be noted that the body changes over time and these changes may lead to the mattress feeling different.

What is the difference in the spring units?
There are numerous spring systems available on the market, with the premium beds using individual heat tempered springs, which greatly reduce partner disturbance and eliminates roll together.  In the mid price range, most beds use inner spring support systems. The most advanced of these systems use continuous heat tempered wire springs, which are linked head to toe to help prevent roll together. Beds in lower price ranges generally use spring systems where springs are linked across the bed, and in some instances enhance roll together. These beds don’t have the life span of more advanced spring systems.

What is the difference between foam and latex rubber?
Latex is a natural product where as foam is synthetic and is made from petrochemicals. Pure latex rubber has the ability to disperse moisture, is antibacterial, mould free and dust free.

What is the difference between natural Latex Gold rubber and synthetic latex rubber?

Latex Gold is made from 100% natural rubber, whereas some manufacturers using the 'talalay' process produce a synthetic rubber which can be made from raw materials derived from substances such as coal, oil, natural gas and acetylene.

How do I know if I need a new mattress?

Your body should tell you when it's time for a new bed. If you regularly wake up feeling stiff and sore or if you are not sleeping as well as you did a year ago, it may be time to replace what you're sleeping on. At least twice a year, check for visible signs of wear and tear and ask yourself if you're sleeping better or worse than you did a year ago, if so a new bed might improve your sleep.

Why doesn't my linen fit my new mattress?

Today's plusher, premium bedding feature increased mattress border heights. Older type sheets may not fit these new mattresses however most linen manufacturers are increasing the depths of their fitted sheets.

How do I select the right size mattress?

Always buy the biggest bed you can. The more room you have in your bed the better quality of sleep you will have, especially if you're sleeping with a partner. Two people sleeping together should select a queen or preferably a king size mattress and base to ensure both individuals have enough space for a good nights sleep.

How do I know what type of mattress is best for me?
Everyone has different needs when it comes to finding the right type of mattress. The best way to choose the right mattress for you is to visit your nearest Sleepyhead dealer. When shopping for a new mattress, it is important that you lie on each mattress. Your body takes about 8 minutes to relax, so it is not until this time that you will know if the mattress will give your body the support you need. The right mattress for you will keep your spine in line and give you support where you need it most.

Why do I feel stiff or sore after sleeping on my new mattress?
There is a normal adjustment period when you change mattresses. The average person will need 1-3 weeks to realign, so their body will get used to the new mattress.

Why does my new mattress have a smell?
We ship the mattresses directly from our factory, immediately after they are built. The new foam smell will usually go away within a week or two.
