Frequently asked questions

How to choose a pillow profile for my sleep position?

The right pillow profile depends on your body frame and preferred sleeping position. Side sleepers generally benefit from a mid to high or contour profile to fill the gap between the ear and shoulder, while back sleepers often prefer a low or mid profile to maintain natural spinal alignment. The Sleepyhead pillow range offers various heights and shapes to ensure every sleeper finds their perfect fit.

What makes Sleepyhead's memory foam pillows superior?

Sleepyhead's memory foam is engineered for higher resilience and better airflow than traditional alternatives. It quickly conforms to your unique shape for immediate pressure relief while resisting the "sinking" feeling often associated with older foams. This ensures consistent support throughout the night and makes it easier to change positions without losing comfort. Additionally, some of our pillows feature memory foam clusters, which allow for more personalisation and a traditional plush pillow feel while still retaining the support and resilience of memory foam.

Are Sleepyhead pillows suitable for people with asthma or allergies?

Yes, the entire Sleepyhead pillow range is designed with health and hygiene in mind. Each pillow is asthma and allergy-friendly, featuring a range of hypoallergenic materials including SmartFibre and natural latex, with antimicrobial protection to help inhibit the growth of dust mites, bacteria, and mould. Additionally, our ventilated memory foam cores promote airflow to keep your sleep fresh and dry.

How do FusionGraphene and FusionGel in Sleepyhead pillows improve sleep?

Infusing memory foam with cooling technology helps manage the heat that naturally builds up while you sleep. FusionGel uses heat-absorbing particles to draw warmth away from the body, while graphene acts as a highly conductive pathway to dissipate heat quickly. These technologies work throughout the night to keep your sleeping temperature stable and comfortable.

How often should you replace your pillows?

You should generally replace your pillows every 1 to 2 years. Over time, pillows lose their ability to provide proper support, and can accumulate allergens that could include dust mites, mold or mildew. Key signs it’s time for a new pillow include waking with neck or shoulder stiffness, a noticeably lumpy or permanently flat pillow, or a pillow that can't spring back after you fold it in half.

What is a down alternative pillow?

Down alternative pillows are designed to mimic the soft, pillowy feel of a traditional down pillow - without the ethical and health concerns. Even if you're not allergic to feathers, down pillows are notorious for harbouring allergens including dust mites and mildew, and must be well-aired and kept completely dry. Plus finding pillows filled with ethically-harvested down can be difficult. Down alternative pillows get around these issues by using hypoallergenic polyester fibre or clusters that still feel like down fill. These can be treated to enhance their moisture resistant properties, and Sleepyhead down alternative pillows are made using Ultra-Fresh for superior anti-bacterial and anti-fungal protection.

How long do pillows last?

Most pillows last 1 to 2 years, though high-quality latex or memory foam will last longer. A pillow’s lifespan depends on what it’s made of and how well you take care of it. Using protective covers can extend a pillow’s life, but natural breakdown from moisture, pressure, and repeated use eventually flattens fibres and diminishes support. Fibre pillows will last 1-2 years, while memory foam pillows will generally last 3 years, and latex pillows will probably still perform well at 5 years.

What are the best pillows you can buy?

The best pillow for you depends entirely on your sleep position and personal needs.
Side sleepers need a firm, medium to high-loft pillow to fill the gap between their neck and the bed. Back sleepers suit a medium-loft pillow with even support, like contour memory foam. Stomach sleepers need a thin, soft pillow to prevent neck strain: fibre fill pillows are a great option. Hot sleepers should avoid memory foam or look for added cooling technologies. And sensitive sleepers will benefit from pillows with added antimicrobial protection.
